Captains Message

A Message from the 2025 Captain (Photos to be Updated)

Mr Paul Hutchinson

I feel extremely honoured and proud to become Captain of Teesside Golf Club and I would like to thank Peter Scott for choosing me to be his Vice-Captain last year and the members for their support in electing me to represent them and the club in 2025.

As most members will be aware I will be secretary and also captain for 2025. In both roles I will give my all and most importantly I will do my best to represent the members of Teesside Golf Club and promote the clubs excellent reputation.

As a Leeds Rhinos season ticket holder my chosen charity is ‘Rob Burrow Centre for MND’. Rob played rugby for the Rhinos for 16 years until 2017. Sadly, in December 2019 he was diagnosed with MND. Since 2019 many of you may have seen the fundraising carried out by himself and former Leeds Captain “Sir” Kevin Sinfield on TV. Sadly, Rob died June 2024 and unfortunately didn’t get the chance to see the new centre open which is due to be completed this summer.

Rob was someone who faced challenges throughout his rugby career due to his small stature, he was only 5’5”.
Once retired he had to deal with the worst possible challenge with a life ending illness. Throughout his life he remained positive and fought every day until his death. He has inspired me during this time when I faced personal challenges which forced me to be medically retired as a Police Officer. This is the reason I have chosen this charity.

Although this charity is based in Leeds, it will be available for local MND patients to. Also, with it being a teaching hospital hopefully more will be leant from this dreadful disease to help current and future patients.

Instead of a charity bunker I will be using the pond on 18th due to losing several balls in here whilst being a member. This also includes anyone knocking it in off the first! Collections for this will be in the jar on the bar.

My wife Amy which some of you know will also be taking part in the Rob Burrow half marathon in Leeds on Sunday 11th May for the same charity.

I would ask if people could support my charity during the year and the fund raising events that will take place.

Gary Evans and his team, with the help of volunteers had the course in great condition during 2024. I am very confident the course will continue to be fantastic in 2025. We are always looking for volunteers to help on the course and anyone who wishes to help can contact myself or greens chair Peter Scott.

The Executive Committee of this club are there for the members and any questions or queries regarding competitions, greens or house matters then please direct them to the relevant Committee member. If you are unsure of who to speak to then you can find their photographs in the main entrance hall.

I would like to thank the club sponsors who provide much needed support to help us with the costs of the club. Some have provided much needed services or materials whilst others support the club financially. If you know of any business that maybe interested in sponsoring the club, please see me or our marketing and sponsorship chair Michael Wicks.

Mike Pilgrim our professional is a great asset to the club. He is now into his 3rd year at TGC and brings with him great experience and knowledge whether its teaching, fitting or advice on all golf matters. His reputation is second to none in the area and we are fortunate to have him. I’d like to thank him for the work he does behind the scenes in promoting the club along with supporting and organising the Pro-Am is priceless. Mike is always happy to help so I’d encourage any members to use him when they can.

May I also thank our members for your continued support of Teesside Golf Club. I encourage you all to provide any suggestions that you feel could improve our course or facilities. Please pass them to me or any member of the committee. I will endeavour to play with different groups throughout the year and look forward to hearing your ideas.

I would like to thank Michael Wicks for agreeing to become my Vice-Captain and I wish the Ladies Captain Katie Scaife and the Junior Captain Tom Hartshorne a very good year.

Finally I hope to meet as many members as possible and I hope that 2025 is a very enjoyable year for everyone associated to Teesside Golf Club.

Paul Hutchinson
